Geeky for YOU!
Location: Rochester, NY
1. Why do you consider yourself a geek?
I never fit in with the mainstream during high school, I was more interested in computers than girls. I like RPGs, console gaming and sci-fi. I enjoy a good discussion about theoretical physics and the meaning of the universe (42, of course). I'm fascinated by the human mind and the interaction between the mind and the physical world. I'd much rather spend a friday night with a small group either talking philosophy or playing games than going to a club or watching sports.
2. What type of geeky things have you done?
For Halloween I've dressed up as my favorite D&D character, which I have played for 5 years. I've created my own D&D-style RPG system. I used to make maps for the original Doom. I've read a version of Hamlet that was both in English and Klingon. I programmed a personal organizer using the Star Trek computer interface, called PADD. I would often get above a score of 100 on my AP Comp Sci projects, for doing much more than the assigned work.
3. What geeky activities do you participate in?
I've been a Dungeonmaster for 6 years, and also a D&D player. I like gaming parties (UT, Diablo 2, Smash Bros., Tetris). I used to play Magic. I go through spurts of playing DDR obsessively. I don't know if fencing is considered "geeky" but I just plain love swords.
4. What geeky 'traits' do you have?
I identify myself with various characters from games/shows/anime. I have a flair for the dramatic and wish I had the power to control dramatic wind. I enjoy getting really obscure references to things that other people don't get, or understanding very geeky jokes. I often spout off completely random comments.
5. Add one more thing about yourself that makes you geekish:
I know what parts of my brain are active while I'm thinking about and writing this.
Favorites: (1-5 answers for each, please)
-Video games: Phantasy Star 4, Star Ocean 2/3, Worms Armageddon, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, Diablo 2
-Movies: Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Star Trek: First Contact, Lord of the Rings (the whole thing), XXX, Masterminds
-Bands/Artists: R.E.M., Fischerspooner, Bad Religion, Mozart, Beethoven
-Cars: Dodge Neon, Chevy Cobalt
-TV shows: Babylon 5, Firefly, Stargate, ST: Deep Space 9, Naruto
-Books: Terry Pratchett, Shakespeare, Q-Squared, The Hitchhiker's Guide
In addition, I'm synaesthetic and I see sounds in my mind. Everyone's voice has a different color and texture. Every different type of sound has a pattern, like a line, or a blunt shape, etc.
